Good on ya Dickie

Over the past few years I've been annoyed with architects and property developers building apartment buildings in the Auckland CBD that are visually unappealing and just awful. All too many were being built with the developers site on the prize of making a quick simple buck. Today i read in the NZ Herald that thats all about to change. Dick Hubbard (Akld City Mayor) annouced that he is about to "...announce plans to score every new building - from houses to high-rises - on its urban design merits, with a three tier system to throw out mediocre proposals, process acceptable ones in the normal manner and fast track those which are of high quality."
With this in mind we may hopefully see Auckland truly become a city of potential significance.
Still some years out from being fully realised but even the longest journey starts with the first step and it seems that this is a step in the right direction.
