Christchurch gets a loud awakening
This afternoon a metorite was believed to have entered the atmosphere over Canterbury. Most likely burning up in the atmosphere before hitting the ground at what could only be expected as 'pretty dang fast'.
It was seen &/or heard from as far north as Hanmer Springs in north canterbury to Hinds in Mid-canterbury with several reports stating they heard a loud boom as it crossed the sky. Reports were coming in pretty much saying the same, that people whether at work or home or simply just in there car thought at first it was a plane flying way too low or an earth quake but thought it unusual as nothing was shaking.
Said to be about the size of a soccer ball it's speed was enough to crack the sound barrier and is not reported as to it's actual landing area but one thing is for sure if it managed to stay intact.... it made a sizeable dent in what ever it hit.
