Waterfront Prospect

Reading the NZ Herald this morning I was both pleased and concerned at the prospect of placing a new state of the art stadium at aucklands waterfront. The idea is brillient but I do have some reservations.
The support from Eden Park management was encouraged for the project after local residents declined the upgrade of Eden Park, while that was not the full reason why their support being Auckland's premier cricket and rugby park is substantial.
The reservations I have is simple in nature but large on a much wider scale in that I touch wood, pray and hope that while Auckland's Mayor Dick Hubbard (currently in Japan) was said to say that he would work with government and other specialists to ensure it's done right the first time as they only get one shot at it.
My concern is that the eye appealing design is enough to put Auckland on the international scene such as buildings as the Sydney Opera House, Hong Kong's convention centre and be on the first step to building an internationally recognised city skyline. While we'll never be as recognised as the New York skyline which is the world's most prominent even before the affects of 9/11 the first step is always the biggest in moving towards the end goal.

My confidence in his ability has weekend since he took over as mayor. His mind is in the right place but he needs balls
